Ambulatory Phlebectomy or Microstripping

What is Phlebectomy?

In many cases complete resolution of varicose or spider veins is completed with a procedure we call Microstripping.

In this procedure local anesthetic is placed above the vein, the leg is sterilized and small punctures are placed with a needle several inches apart along the offending vein.

A miniature crochet hook - like surgical instrument is then utilized to remove small parts of the vein. The rest of the vein, now separated from it's attachment Retracts into the skin and becomes harmlessly absorbed.

The leg is then dressed with a walking style wrap for three days and the patient allowed to return back to normal activities.

No sutures or stitches are used as the puncture wounds are so small they frequently have closed by the end of the procedure.
